A Content OriginalS series

‘forward’

In New South Wales, Director Benny Gattegno captures the abstracted culinary world of soft-sculptural artist Chloe Smith. Also known by her pseudonym I Make Soft Food, Australian creative Chloe Smith – a multidisciplinary artist of Chinese and Papua New Guinean heritage – guides a journey into her craft and inspiration in Forward. Directed by Benny Gattegno with Sydney-based creative media company Content Originals, the film presents a new concept connecting with masters of their craft as they forge their way through a unique approach toward their medium.

Original content

“The abstraction inherent in Chloe's artistry found its counterpart in the video's narrative, mirroring her unorthodox approach”

- Benny Gattegno

Crafting soft-sculptural pieces exploring the mundane and the absurd, Smith builds a unique sense of storytelling around food – re-envisioned as tactile still lifes. Capturing the surreal world that situates her personal landscape and the illusionary realm that surrounds her soft foods, the humorous yet meticulously constructed forms enter a place where boundaries blur, at the center of familiar rituals of preparation and cooking.

Shooting against the lush New South Wales wilderness, Gattegno shapes a parallel world seen through Smith’s abstracted lens – where reality and the imagination intersect, carving an unconventional path into explorations of perception, creativity, and the transformative
power of art.
